Musk Says SpaceX-Tesla Merger Could Benefit Both Companies
“I think it would be a good idea, but it’s really up to the special committees of both companies,” Musk said, noting that potential conflicts of interest prevent him from directly taking part in the independent assessment.
According to Musk, the review began after shareholders called for the companies to consider joining forces. The committees established by each company will independently examine the proposal and hold the authority to determine whether a transaction should proceed.
Musk also pointed to potential advantages from bringing the businesses together, particularly in areas where their technological priorities overlap. “I do think there’s a lot of merit to combining the companies as we are pretty much in the super intelligence singularity,” he said, highlighting opportunities to advance artificial intelligence software, chip design, robotics and logistics for operations in space through closer cooperation.
Despite expressing support for the idea, Musk stressed that a merger remains uncertain. The committees have yet to settle on any terms, and their assessment could ultimately end without an agreement. For now, the proposal remains under consideration, with the independent review process set to determine whether the two companies move forward with a potential combination.
